Coffee Expedition: Navigating New Waters (and Beans)
Checking out 4 new trendy coffee shops in the west metro of Minneapolis
Ah, Minneapolis - a city that's quickly growing its reputation as a coffee destination. My recent excursion in the west metro area saw me visiting four newly minted coffee shops, all with unique personalities, to figure out where I'd best get my caffeine fix.
Here's the lowdown:
Fox and Pantry
Highlight: Irresistible Pastries
I walked in with high hopes. The aroma of freshly baked goods captivated me instantly. Those cinnamon rolls? Divine. However, my heart sank a tad when the barista couldn't enlighten me about their coffee origins or brew methods. With only a dark roast available and no real information about it, I skipped the coffee. The ambiance? A bit too crammed for my liking, both with decor and patrons. Still, those pastries? Worth a revisit.
Would I go back?
Yes, for the pastries. Coffee? Not so much.
Basecamp Coffee and Provisions
Highlight: Spacious with Stellar Brews
Located adjacent to Unmapped Brewing, Basecamp blends the thrill of adventure with the serenity of a coffee shop. Beyond the expansive seating, their hiking gear and clothing added to the ambience. The highlight? Their offering of Fika Coffee. My pour-over was, hands down, the coffee champion of the day.
Would I go back?
Absolutely. That pour-over? It beckons.
Getaway Motor Cafe
Highlight: Aesthetic Perfection
Arguably the most picturesque venue of the lot, Getaway Motor Cafe has a certain charm. Their bar seating provides an exclusive look into the baristas working their magic on the impressive MOD Bar. As for the coffee? I opted for an espresso tonic. It was palatable but not mind-blowing. Though the place buzzed with patrons, making it clear it's a hit with many.
Would I go back?
For the atmosphere and aesthetic, yes. The espresso tonic? Maybe I'd try something new.
Curiouser Coffee and Conservatory
Highlight: An Escape from the Chain Cafe Scene
Their coffee program mirrored Fox and Pantry, but with a glaring omission: no delicious pastries to distract me. Attached to a pizza joint (which, to its credit, did intrigue me), the ambiance felt a bit... unusual. Still, if you're in the southern suburbs desperate for a break from the monotonous Starbucks routine, Curiouser could be your spot.
Would I go back?
If I were nearby and seeking a change, sure. Though it wouldn't be my first choice.
Final Thoughts:
This day-long coffee shop marathon was both delightful and revealing. While each spot had its strengths, it's clear that the West Metro coffee scene is diverse and continually evolving. Here's to more such coffee adventures and finding that perfect brew!
